The Fullah Women Association UK & I brings together Fullah (Fulani) women living across the United Kingdom and Ireland. We began as friends who wanted a place to lean on one another, and we have grown into a community that celebrates who we are and lifts each other up.
Our purpose is to support and empower Fullah women by preserving our culture, advancing education, strengthening community connections and opening doors to personal and professional growth, so that every sister feels confident, well and seen in wider society.
No sister faces life's challenges alone.
Safe, welcoming spaces to meet and belong.
Skills, confidence and a voice in society.
Our language, dress and traditions, passed on with pride.
Culturally rooted activities designed with and for Fullah women, from workshops and mentoring to celebrations that bring us together.
Celebrating Fullah language, storytelling, music, traditional dress and crafts through events, workshops and heritage projects.
Skills training, mentoring and educational workshops that open pathways into further education and careers.
Peer networks, social gatherings and partnerships that reduce isolation and build lasting friendships.
Leadership development, employment guidance, entrepreneurship support and volunteering opportunities.
Mental health awareness, wellbeing activities and advocacy that amplify the voices of Fullah women.
Guided by Islamic values of compassion and community, we host faith-based learning and interfaith dialogue that builds mutual understanding.
We also nurture links with Fullah women in Sierra Leone and Guinea, exchanging ideas and strengthening the bond between sisters at home and abroad.
The Fullah, also known as the Fulani, Fula, Fulbe or Peul, are one of the largest and most widespread peoples of Africa, with communities stretching across West and Central Africa from Senegal to Cameroon and beyond.
Our language, Pular (also Pulaar or Fulfulde), carries centuries of poetry, proverbs and oral history. Many of our families trace their roots to the Fouta Djallon highlands of Guinea and to Sierra Leone, and our heritage is rich with pastoral tradition, fine weaving and embroidery, beadwork and jewellery, and the carved and decorated calabash.
At the heart of Fullah identity is pulaaku, a code of conduct that guides how we live and treat one another:
Our emblem: stacked, patterned calabashes held in open hands. It speaks of a heritage we carry with care and pass, hand to hand, to our daughters.
Join us for an unforgettable evening of culture, heritage and sisterhood as we officially launch the Fullah Women Association UK & I.
